We’re seeking a detail-oriented and creative professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to make a tangible difference. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical packaging expertise, analytical acumen, and a collaborative mindset to deliver innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. You’ll work alongside a passionate, entrepreneurial team dedicated to delighting pet parents across the country.

What You'll Do:

  • Partner with the Chewy Private Label team and Chewy vendors to create primary packaging suitable for the ecommerce shipping environment.

  • Collaborate with the cold chain team to design and maintain cold chain packaging guidelines for frozen food and temperature sensitive pharmaceutical shipments, including end-to-end testing and certification

  • Assess and transform Chewy’s VAS (value-added services) packaging strategy.

  • Develop custom physical material tests, packaging tests, and other test protocols in addition to utilizing existing industry standards (ISTA and ASTM).

  • Launch new distribution packaging initiatives in collaboration with operations teams, and work with analytics partners to measure success and ensure compliance.

  • Collaborate with systems and technical teams to enable new capabilities as part of Chewy’s fulfilment strategy.

  • Reduce damages and cost through testing and analysis of defect drivers in packaging, dunnage, and more.

  • Contribute to supply chain analytics and other projects, providing packaging subject matter expertise beyond core responsibilities.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field from a leading institution.

  • Minimum 5 years (or 4 for master’s degree/MBA) experience in packaging for CPG, food, beverage, retail, or e-commerce companies.

  • Strong ability to translate packaging design into measurable performance metrics (e.g. damages) and troubleshoot issues across fulfillment.

  • Familiarity with the cost and operational impact of packaging designs, from development to execution in fulfillment centers.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in collaborating across cross-functional teams to ensure smooth development, testing, and launch of new packaging designs.

  • Experience in fast-paced e-commerce environments, with the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously and communicate proactively with stakeholders.

  • Strong data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze, test, and iterate packaging solutions based on operational performance.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, XLOOKUP, macros) and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • High attention to detail, exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities, and a proactive, self-motivated mindset.

  • Ability to anticipate business needs, drive innovation, and think strategically about packaging improvements.

  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Bonus:

  • Experience with cold chain packaging for human or pet consumption.

  • Proficiency in SQL and Tableau for data analysis and visualization.

  • Background in packaging sustainability initiatives.

  • Experience in e-commerce, retail, manufacturing, or startup environments.

  • Knowledge of packaging material sourcing or vendor engagement.
