Vultr is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Storage Performance Engineer to drive the best possible storage performance both within Vultr Cloud Storage products and the systems consuming that storage. The ideal candidate is well versed in performance tuning and benchmarking methodologies with regard to both storage and systems. This is a highly visible role in a high-growth technology company, which will require extensive experience with Linux kernel, networking stack, and storage protocol performance tuning on the client side as well as design and performance of storage system architectures, particularly with Ceph. Key Responsibilities
Primary responsibility is to improve the performance of Vultr’s high performance, cloud-based storage offerings from a customer-focused perspective
Perform benchmarking and analysis of storage performance in various combinations of our storage products and GPU and Compute products.
Analyze and recommend performance tuning to improve storage performance across these benchmarks.
Continually enhance the Ceph-based Cloud Storage System in terms of stability, scalability, functionality, performance and cost
Actively participate in the design and architecture decisions for Ceph-based Cloud Storage
Develop automation framework and improvements for our Ceph-based Cloud Storage infrastructure
Optimize existing metrics collection and alerting systems
Contribute to our internal documentation and knowledge base
Qualifications
In-depth experience with performance tuning of Ceph and Ceph clients and other scale-out distributed storage systems and clients.
Experience with tuning the performance of Linux networking, NFS & iSCSI clients, and the storage clients of proprietary storage solutions
Fluentcy with Linux (CentOS/RHEL/Debian/Ubuntu)
Hands-on experience with virtualized platforms and clients (kvm, virtio-blk, virtio-fs)
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (RKE2 or similar)
6+ years and extensive experience configuring, deploying, and managing distributed systems
Effective Communication skills
Excellent time management skills
The ability to manage work independently
Strong collaboration skills
Compensation
$80,000 - $110,000
This salary can vary based on location, years of experience, background and skill set.
