The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of Kubernetes components, container runtime internals, and modern IaC/automation practices. This role will have a direct impact on Vultr’s global cloud infrastructure footprint, working on high-scale systems powering thousands of customers. This is your opportunity to join a highly visible engineering team at a fast-growing cloud provider and shape the future of our compute, networking, and container platforms.
Key Responsibilities
-
Build and maintain production-grade automation using Ansible, Terraform, and Go
-
Develop and enhance core services behind VKE, VLB (HAProxy), VCR (Container Registry), and Inference

Engage deeply with Kubernetes internals (scheduler, kubelet, controllers, CRDs)
-
Design, implement, and improve container runtime integrations (containerd, runc, OCI)
-
Architect CI/CD improvements and deployment pipelines for large-scale systems
-
Troubleshoot complex issues across networking, load balancing, containers, and distributed systems
-
Contribute directly to Vultr’s open-source ecosystem (terraform provider, crossplane, vultr-cli, govultr)
-
Improve overall reliability, observability, and operability of cloud-native services
-
Collaborate with product, platform, and infrastructure teams on feature delivery
Qualifications
-
3–5+ years in DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Engineering roles
-
Strong experience with Kubernetes internals (not just kubectl usage)
-
Proficiency with Go or willingness to become Go-first
-
Experience with container runtimes (containerd, runc), OCI images, CNI/CSI
-
Hands-on experience with Terraform and Ansible
-
Solid Linux fundamentals and troubleshooting
-
Experience with load balancers or proxies (HAProxy, Envoy, NGINX) a plus
-
Understanding of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure concepts
Compensation
$75,000 - $100,000
This salary can vary based on location, years of experience, background and skill set.
