Who You’ll Work With

As a Modernization Solution Architect, you’ll guide clients through complex application and platform modernization on Azure Cloud. You’ll work closely with cloud engineers, architects, modernization delivery leaders, and platform teams to help reshape legacy systems into scalable, cloud-native solutions.

You’ll be a key player in Slalom’s Zero Legacy initiative and Microsoft go-to-market strategy turning legacy into leverage through thoughtful modernization strategy and execution planning.

Slalom is targeting a Senior Principal or Director for this role.

What You’ll Do

• Shape and support enterprise-scale app modernization engagements, advising on decomposition, re-platforming, refactoring, and rearchitecting strategies.
• Guide roadmap development and application portfolio analysis, helping clients prioritize what to modernize, retire, or rebuild.
• Drive conversations around container orchestration, CI/CD modernization, and DevOps alignment.
• Provide technical advisory support in large deals - helping clients envision scalable modernization paths while aligning business and product outcomes.
• Lead early-stage client discussions, workshops, and whiteboarding sessions to develop and position modernization strategies.
• Support pursuits by aligning with partner funding strategies and cross-functional solution architects.
• Collaborate with AI Transformation, Data, and Migration specialists to support phased modernization journeys.
• Contribute to Slalom’s proactive modernization offerings, reference architectures, and reusable technical assets.
  
  

What You’ll Bring

• Hands-on experience with application modernization patterns (12-factor apps, monolith decomposition, service extraction).
• Familiarity with DevOps tooling and practices, including IaC, GH Copilot, CI/CD, and cloud-native deployment pipelines.
• Experience with app portfolio analysis tools and legacy-to-microservices transition planning.
• Understanding of, and experience with, container orchestration platforms like Azure Kubernetes Services.
• Awareness of data modernization dependencies (data lake/warehouse, SQL platform migration).
• Comfort influencing product and engineering leaders with practical creativity and long-term thinking.
• Ability to explain not just how to modernize, but why it matters for product velocity, customer experience, and business agility.
• Cloud professional certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solution Architect or equivalent).
• Strong storytelling, solution shaping, and sales pursuit support experience.
• Collaborative mindset with a non-hierarchical approach to client and internal teamwork.

In addition, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will depend upon an individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.

Director: $261,000-$320,000

San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Seattle, Houston, New Jersey, New York City, Westchester, Boston, Washington DC:

Sr Principal: $210,500-$257,000

Director: $240,000-$293,000

All other locations:

Sr Principal: $193,000-$236,000

Director: $220,000-$269,000
