SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Senior Analyst to join the Catastrophe Risk Research & Development (Cat Risk R&D) Team. In this role, you will be crucial in building an advanced understanding of natural catastrophe risk. You will support catastrophe analytics and research to help build a state-of-the-art view of natural catastrophe risk that enhances our underwriting risk segmentation advantage, improves our portfolio decision-making, and informs the direction of our weather data and analytics.
What you would be doing:
- Handle both ad hoc and routine catastrophe risk analytics requests, analyzing and reporting results for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Contribute to maintaining a comprehensive knowledge base of catastrophe vendor model differences, core capabilities, and potential future changes affecting SageSure’s view of natural catastrophe risk.
- Engage in forensic analyses of claims to uncover insights and patterns, further improving risk segmentation and predictive modeling capabilities.
- Conduct third-party vendor evaluation studies to enhance our handling of catastrophe claims and portfolio risk management.
- Support real-time and post-event catastrophe response activities, providing impact insights that influence decision-making across various business units, such as actuarial, claims, innovation, and underwriting.
- Coordinate and conduct in-depth catastrophe model evaluations, including sensitivity analyses and model change management exercises.
- Collaborate with the Cat Risk R&D Team to implement customizations in RMS and Verisk catastrophe models.
- Develop efficient processes to incorporate lessons learned from the Cat Risk R&D Team into portfolio modeling.
- Developing strong subject matter expertise and quantitative skills relating to catastrophe risk.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in atmospheric science/meteorology, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Ability to program in Python or R, and SQL, with proficiency in analyzing and visualizing geospatial data in ArcGIS and/or QGIS.
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
- Critical thinking ability across multiple disciplines.
- Demonstrated analytical, communication, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
- Thorough understanding of Verisk and RMS catastrophe models, with the ability to critically evaluate and provide feedback in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Office and overall database-related skills.
- Advanced SQL knowledge, working knowledge of HTTP and API methods (GET, POST, PUT), and proficiency in advanced programming languages (Python or R).
Highly preferred candidates also have:
- Prior experience in a P&C insurance company or industry-serving entity.
- Prior experience running RiskLink and/or Touchstone catastrophe model platforms.
- Master’s degree or equivalent in atmospheric science/meteorology, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant certification for Catastrophe Risk Modeling.
