Position Summary:
The Senior Analyst, Environmental Waste Operations will be responsible for supporting the Manager, Environmental Waste Operations and supporting fleet compliance with international, national, and local waste regulations and record keeping requirements and RCG’s internal waste management policies. The senior analyst supports the day-to-day environmental operations including transfer and integration of new Royal Caribbean Group (RCG) assets, ships and the advancement of initiatives related to shipboard operations, shipboard technologies, and waste management systems. The person selected for this role will additionally support the advancement of RCG’s waste reduction initiatives and sustainability programs related to shipboard waste processing technologies, operations, and management systems through data analysis. This includes coordinating environmental stewardship content for internal and external reports and presentations regarding Management System reviews, quarterly updates to company Objectives & Targets, the Global Reporting Initiative.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the shipboard environmental waste operations, providing support to the RCG fleet and ensuring compliance with international, national, and local waste regulations including but not limited to MARPOL Annex V.
- Support fleet operations as it pertains to compliance with applicable international, national and local regulations for hazardous waste management, landing and record keeping (i.e. US EPA RCRA requirements).
- Supports the Green Hub and due diligence programs to drive reduction of landed shipboard waste to landfill.
- Incident prevention and response including holding the Environmental Duty Phone to support RCG’s fleet 24/7 for Environmental incidents, assisting the ships with proper reporting to relevant authorities and flag states, and working with the Environmental Operations Manager to develop fleetwide preventative actions and lessons learned.
- Monitors operational status of onboard waste handling equipment and coordinates with marine operations as needed.
- Oversees solid waste practices of RCG vessels from generation to discharge, identifying best management tracking, analysis and reporting as well as improving source reduction and reuse.
- Reviews the annual waste management data and reports progress in meeting Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) Objectives and Targets, KPIs and long-term corporate goals.
- Works with the ships and marine operations to provide operational exemptions to ships as needed.
- Coordinates with relevant stakeholders shipboard and shoreside to develop and update relevant environmental training materials
- Assists with training and providing support to Environmental Officers and other shipboard officers as needed, including coordination of Environmental Officers Level I & II Conference.
- Review requests from ships with regard to exemptions from policy criteria when an environmental benefit can be proven.
- Conducts training with environmental officers and shore side management as needed and respond to questions and queries from Environmental Officers or other shipboard personnel.
- Supports the advancement of Environmental Stewardship initiatives and strategic goals related to shipboard operations including but not limited to Waste & Chemical Management, Water & Wastewater, and Energy & Air.
- Monitors the environmental performance of the various ships in the fleet and facilitating activities related to environmental incident prevention, response and reporting.
- International travel may be required up to 25% of the year

Financial Responsibilities:
- Able to prepare own travel budget and apply corporate accounting principles to ensure compliance
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree required, Masters Preferred in environmental management, sustainable tourism, marine affairs and policy or related field. Minimum of 2-3 years corporate work or experience required or related Master degree. Shipboard experience is preferred in the capacity of an Environmental Officer within the cruise line industry.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong communication, presentation, training and facilitation skills.
- Strong understanding of technical system and their integration to processes
- Ability to develop, plan and organize tactical plans utilizing project management principles.
- Knowledge of international, regional and national maritime environmental laws and regulations required, such as IMO/MARPOL and US Federal environmental regulations.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004, Global Reporting Index (GRI)
- Ability to communicate tactfully with, managers, coworkers and shipboard employees to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions.
- Good understanding of marine pollution technical/environmental systems, prevention/control equipment operations and theory a plus/preferred.
- Proficiency with internet search engines, email applications and Microsoft Office applications required (specifically; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Access). Understanding of Adobe software (Adobe Professional, Dreamweaver and Flash) required.
- Candidate must be able to conduct independent research and communicate findings.
- Possess strong English oral and written skills, multiple languages a plus
