Royal Caribbean Group’s Hotel Operations Team in the Royal Caribbean International brand has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Manager, Newbuild Programs, with a focus on reviewing architecture and design, reporting to the Director, Hotel Operations Newbuild Programs.
This position will work on-site in Miami, Florida.
Position Summary:
This is a land-based position, but functions as the shipboard operations content expert. In this role, you would proactively assess, quantify, plan, coordinate, drive, and manage the execution of projects so they are accomplished within the prescribed time frame, budget, while meeting all safety standards and brand standards. You would be responsible to ensure the operability of the vessel including new concepts. This entails collaborating with various departments, brand sponsor representatives involved in the day-to-day ship operation: Hotel and Marine Operations, Global Marine Technical teams, Design, Finance, Procurement, HR, IT, Shore Excursions, Onboard Revenue, Revenue Management, Sales and Marketing, Safety and Environment as well as shipyards. Your focus would be on logistics, operability, innovation, efficiencies, technology, SOP’s, compliance. Typical assignments would include Newbuild new ship class development, large scale projects such as Revitalizations / Modernizations and Special Projects. You would need to leverage existing analytical and product development resources accordingly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess reference vessel performances, lessons learnt, current condition.
- Ensure any new concept development will include all necessary components to operate the venues / concepts in an optimal manner, back of house access, transportation, services, storage, technology needs, resources, standard operating procedures.
- Communicate / seek shoreside responsible sponsors’ feedback, decisions on key elements throughout the design phase.
- Represent Hotel Operations department in all meetings related to concept and design development of each venues / concept.
- Develop par level and full year operating expense plan for specific venue / concept.
- Develop a 5- and 10-year lifecycle model cost model for specific venues / concepts and escalate any concerns to brand leadership if out of the norm.
- Develop milestones and action plans with various sponsors towards venue / concept operability.
- Manages vendors, ensuring they meet our time, budget, safety and brand guidelines.
- Manage and coordinate at a high level, all general procedures and regulatory classification and safety issues between new building office(s) and classification and regulatory societies.
- Communicate project plan status on a regular basis to project team and project stakeholders.
- Participate to final venue inspections on behalf of the brand leadership, update brand leadership on adherence to venue completion schedules and subsequent release to shipboard operators.
- Drives punch lists and guarantee claims towards prompt and effective resolution.
- Assess, communicate and drive operational improvements with all Hotel Operations Sponsors.
- Utilizes project management tools and techniques to develop and maintain project scope; manages customer expectations and maintains focus.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- MBA or masters / bachelor’s degree in naval architecture or related field.
- 10+ years of experience on largest cruise vessels in various shipboard management positions within Hotel Operations or equivalent large resort.
- Project Management experience required.
- PMP preferred
- Must be able to read CAD drawings, fully proficient with Microsoft Project.
- Software: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. AMOS and Essbase preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Solid organizational and planning skills
- Solid written and verbal communication skills. Must communicate at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communicate in a multicultural environment with all levels of employees and management.
- Detail oriented with excellent analytical, financial and spreadsheet modeling skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
While performing job functions, you would be regularly required to sit, stand, write, review and type reports, compile data, operate a computer, communicate, listen, and assess information. You may move about the office complex, may travel to other office locations and may lift, push, pull or move 10-15 pounds. You would occasionally be required to work in shipyards during project executions with very basic accommodations and required to walk to the dock, ascend and descend the vessel. This position may regularly travel domestically or internationally. Visual requirements include distant, close and color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
