The Royal Caribbean Group has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Senior Technical Accountant II reporting to the Manager, Technical Accounting, Derivatives.
This position works on-site in Miami, Florida
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting the Manager of Technical Accounting, Derivatives in the financial reporting of Royal Caribbean’s derivative instruments and for executing the company’s hedge accounting program in accordance with relevant accounting literature (ASC 815 Derivatives and Hedging). This process involves completing the monthly close process, performing periodic hedge effectiveness testing, and preparing relevant disclosures for the company’s SEC filings. This position will also perform a combination of the following duties including the development/drafting of derivative accounting position papers and presenting derivatives accounting matters to the company’s Hedge Committee or other members of upper management. A strong grasp of and ability to efficiently research highly technical accounting is required along with an understanding of complex financial instruments. The ability to design, perform and interpret statistical analysis is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the implementation of relevant hedge accounting literature (ASC 815 and ASC 820) / Sarbanes Oxley internal controls./ and the Royal Caribbean Hedge Policy in accounting for the company’s hedge accounting program.
- Monitor new accounting pronouncements, assist in implementing new standards, and draft relevant disclosures for SEC filings (10-Qs and 10-Ks).
- Assist in the preparation of new or amended accounting policies, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
- Applies advanced accounting concepts to draft and maintain hedge accounting documentation which describes in technical detail the company’s hedge strategy and hedge testing processes.
- Generates and interprets statistical analysis required to initiate and continuously determine hedge accounting.
- Performs technical accounting research to conclude on and write position papers regarding the accounting treatment for current and suggested hedge transactions.
- Provides technical accounting support and presents to upper management and/or the Hedge Committee as it relates to derivatives and hedge accounting.
- Determines and generates the proper periodic accounting for derivative transactions from inception to maturity.
- Prepares and analyzes internal management reports for the accounting impact of the company’s derivative financial activity.
- Produces the statement of cash flows specific to derivatives activity on a quarterly basis.
- Generates derivative financial statement disclosures on derivative instruments and hedge accounting for the company’s SEC filings (10-K and 10-Q).
- Prepares and analyzes monthly balance sheet reconciliations to identify and ensures timely resolution of outstanding items.
- Prepares quarterly balance sheet and income statement variance analytics for derivatives activity.
- Supports monthly close by providing derivative and stock compensation entries.
- Prepares and analyzes monthly stock compensation forecast, as well as quarterly stock compensation plan.
- Prepares annual forfeiture rate analysis and position paper for stock compensation.
- Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
- An undergraduate business degree in Accounting.
- Post graduate degree in Accounting or an MBA with an Accounting specialization preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in active and good standing.
- Must be able to interact effectively with varying levels of management.
- Must have ability to move quickly from one task to another and manage competing deadlines.
- Minimum 3 years of Accounting experience (at least two years of recent public accounting with a Big 4/national public accounting firm).
- Knowledge of accounting for derivatives and hedge accounting; and related disclosures (ASC 815 and ASC 820).
- Strong analytical and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Experience in performing technical accounting research and the ability to documenting findings.
- Experience in presenting complex/technical accounting matters to all levels of management.
- Work experience with statistical analysis (i.e. regression analysis) and the interpretation of such.
- Ability to manage deadline requirements and multi-task projects.
