The Royal Caribbean Group’s Shipboard Talent Acquisition team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Manager, Background Check reporting to the AVP, Shipboard Talent Acquisition.
This position will work on-site in Miami, Florida.
Job Summary:
The Manager of the Background Check Department will oversee the end-to-end background screening process for all new hires and existing employees. This role is critical in ensuring that Royal Caribbean Group maintains high standards of hiring integrity, compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and the safeguarding of our organizational culture and reputation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in background checks, strong leadership skills, and a strategic approach to process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Lead and manage the Background Check team, providing direction, support, and professional development opportunities.
- Establish departmental goals, objectives, and performance metrics aligned with HR and organizational strategies.
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
Background Check Process:
- Oversee the execution of comprehensive background checks, including criminal records, employment verification, education verification, credit checks, and other relevant screenings.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of background checks, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement standardized procedures and protocols to streamline the background check process and enhance efficiency.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Stay abreast of federal, state, and local regulations regarding background checks and ensure the organization’s practices comply with these laws.
- Identify potential risks associated with background check findings and collaborate with legal and HR teams to address and mitigate these risks.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to support audit and compliance requirements.
Vendor Management:
- Manage relationships with third-party background check vendors, ensuring service level agreements are met and evaluating vendor performance.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with vendors to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service delivery.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with Talent Acquisition, HR Business Partners, and other stakeholders to understand hiring needs and provide expert guidance on background check policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with candidates and internal stakeholders regarding background check processes and outcomes.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze background check data and trends to inform decision-making and process improvements.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations on background check activities, outcomes, and key performance indicators for senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in human resources, with at least 5 years in a background check or compliance role.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams.
- In-depth knowledge of background check processes, legal requirements, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in HRIS and background check systems.
