Why This Role Matters
RMW is growing rapidly, and with growth comes the need to deliver consistently excellent service, leverage our subject matter expertise at scale, and ensure our offices operate as one unified firm. The Head of Service Delivery is the leader who will architect and implement the processes and systems to drive quality and efficiency. This role bridges a foundational understanding of the tax and accounting services provisioned by a public accounting firm, practice management, and systems strategy to ensure that our professionals are supported with the right frameworks, tools, and insights to succeed. Reporting to the President, the Head of Service Delivery partners with office leaders on driving revenue and profit growth by delivering excellent service cost effectively at scale, focusing on levers such as production management (staff utilization and productivity, and technology), technical quality, pricing and practice development, leveraging practice management tools and platforms for insights and execution.
This is not an IT role, it is a practitioner’s leadership role. The Head of Service Delivery is the subject matter expert who understands how a CPA firm should operate at its best and ensures that our processes, systems, and people align to deliver that standard across every office.
What You’ll Do
- Define and maintain firmwide frameworks for practice management, including developing service offerings, pricing strategy and implementation, staffing models, project management and client service standards
- Partner with office leaders to ensure consistent technical quality and efficient, scalable client service delivery across offices
- Coordinate staffing, including internal and external resources, across offices to optimize utilization
- Develop and monitor KPIs to provide leadership with visibility into practice performance
- Serve as the business strategist for office-level technology including practice management and CRM platforms (e.g., Canopy or Karbon Software) as well as point solutions (e.g. SafeSend, SurePrep, TaxGPT), ensuring our technology enhances productivity and collaboration
- Drive firmwide adoption and effective use of practice management tools by embedding them into daily processes and accountability structures
- Produce dashboards and insights on utilization, productivity, and client service trends, identifying opportunities for growth and efficiency
- Craft and implement training programs (in partnership with People team) to advance technical excellence and consistency across offices
- Mentor professionals and office leaders, ensuring alignment of technical skills, client service, and system usage
- Act as a trusted advisor to the President and office leaders on how practice management and subject matter expertise drive the firm’s growth
About You
- 10+ years in public accounting with 5+ years in a role directly responsible for firm operations (e.g. Director of Operations) or management (e.g. former firm owner or leader); experience in a high growth, multi-office environment strongly preferred
- Current or inactive CPA or EA (enrolled agent) preferred; 3+ years as a tax practitioner strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to connect domain knowledge with business strategy in a fast-growing firm
- Proven track record of leveraging technology to drive actionable insights and productivity
- Skilled at analyzing utilization and practice metrics and presenting insights that inform firm strategy
- Experienced in leading professional development, training programs, and mentoring staff
- Collaborative and influential, with the ability to build trust across multiple offices and leadership levels
- Experience evaluating, contracting and managing outsourced resources (e.g. offshore)
- Hands-on and entrepreneurial, with the drive to build scalable systems and frameworks and quickly turn ideas into actions and results
- Experience navigating operational transitions related to firm acquisitions, book of business acquisitions and partner retirements / successions
- Training in and experience successfully implementing process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen, preferred
