Position Overview:
Reporting to the Vice President Quality Assurance, Global, this position is responsible for the compliance with the Company Food Safety policies and standards in all our products and restaurant procedures, globally, in all the Company brands. The Sr. Director, Food Safety develops and implements the Company Food Safety strategy, policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Defines the company global Food Safety vision, policies and standards, with authority to ensure only safe products are sold in our restaurants, and to prepare the company in anticipation of emerging food safety trends and threats.
Leads the team that assesses the risk of all new products against the company food safety standards, approving all new specifications.
Ensures all restaurant procedures comply with company food safety standards.
Is the subject matter expert supporting food crisis management and leads efforts to investigate and resolve food safety issues.
Manage, engage, empowers, and develops RBI Food Safety team.
Provides direction, training and coaching on food safety to the Food Safety & QA teams, and to relevant teams involved in developing and launching new products to ensure proper execution and continuous improvement of our food safety policies and standards.
Serves as the company and brand food safety liaison with state/provincial-level agencies, and federal-level activities as needed to resolve regulatory compliance issues and protect the brands.
Develop and maintain relationships with key industry groups, heath regulators and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
≥ 10 year experience in food safety and quality assurance, preferably within the food service/quick service restaurant industry or public health field (i.e., a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS)/Health Inspector).
At least 5 years experience as food safety expert within quick service restaurant
≥ 3 year experience in highest food safety leadership position of a large food or retail company, and/or large restaurant chain, preferably with global operations.
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Food Safety, Food Science, or a related science field (Masters preferred). Must be able to understand and apply scientific & technical knowledge to product and process safety.
Certified Food Safety training: Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), Certified Professional-Food Safety (CP-FS), ServSafe and/or food safety management
Experience or knowledge in the areas of risk based food safety inspections/audits, food safety regulatory standards, microbiological challenge studies, and how food safety principles are applied in food production facilities and in the food service/quick service restaurant industry
The position requires very strong managerial courage, and sound and experienced science-based risk assessment, to be able to successfully define and defend the company's strict food safety standards at product and restaurant implementation levels
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to senior leadership and external partners
Skilled in solving large and complex problems, decision-making, and negotiating
Proven ability to guide teams and influence others to achieve organization goals, operates with a sense of urgency and conviction to high quality standards, delivering results according to plan
