About the Role

Correlation One is seeking an experienced Actuarial Consultant to support the design of a synthetic dataset and competition design materials for a virtual actuarial competition run in partnership with Pacific Life.

This engagement is a defined, short-term consulting project focused on translating a real-world actuarial scenario into a simplified, sophomore-appropriate dataset and evaluation framework. The work will directly support Pacific Life’s efforts to engage emerging actuarial talent while showcasing responsible use of GenAI in actuarial workflows.

Scope of Work & Responsibilities

  • Design and generate a synthetic actuarial dataset (e.g., mortality trends, product attributes, scenario inputs) suitable for a student competition
  • Ensure data realism while intentionally simplifying complexity for an undergraduate audience
  • Validate dataset logic, distributions, and relationships
  • Produce supporting documentation, including a data dictionary and scenario descriptions
  • Collaborate with Correlation One to define evaluation criteria and sample solution guidance
  • Provide input on integrity checkpoints and GenAI-use guardrails to ensure fair and meaningful assessment
  • Help craft the final competition problem statement
  • Incorporate feedback from Correlation One and Pacific Life stakeholders efficiently

Qualifications

  • Background in actuarial science, insurance, or closely related analytical work
  • Experience creating, curating, or simulating datasets for actuarial, insurance, or analytical use cases
  • Familiarity with life insurance products and basic pricing concepts
  • Comfort working in Excel; familiarity with Python or R is a plus but not required
  • Experience using GenAI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) in a professional context with appropriate validation
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to explain actuarial concepts at an undergraduate level

Where You Are

This engagement is fully remote and open to candidates located in time zones compatible with U.S. Eastern Time. Correlation One is headquartered in New York City.
