Summary
The Associate Director of Campus Involvement provides strategic leadership for campus life by overseeing the Student Organization Council (SOC), student clubs and organizations, including management of the Commuter Council. This role leads university traditions such as Week of Welcome, Spring Fling, Club and Resource Fair, and other large-scale events, fostering student engagement, leadership development, and community-building. Additionally, the Associate Director leads campus-wide initiatives such as National First Gen Student Day and Festival of Nations. The Associate Director serves as a mentor and resource for both student leaders and faculty advisors, equipping them with the tools, guidance, and support needed to thrive in their roles.
By utilizing data-driven decision-making, managing departmental budgets, and designing impactful programs, the Associate Director ensures alignment with institutional goals while promoting innovation and inclusivity. Essential Functions
Leadership, Planning, and Budget Management
Drive strategic initiatives for SOC, Commuter Council, and resources, First-Gen, and student organizations in collaboration with senior leadership based on industry best practices and internal data.
Lead and facilitate university-wide traditions, including Week of Welcome, Club and Resource Fair, Halloween events, Spring Fling, and off-campus events such as Halloween and Youth Fair trips.
Manage department budgets for SOC, Commuter Council, First-Gen, and student organizations, ensuring fiscal responsibility and strategic resource allocation.
Oversee and support faculty advisors for student organizations, recruitment and training, mentorship, and relationship-building with Academic Affairs partners.
Prepare necessary documentation for quarterly and annual reports, including both quantitative and qualitative data assessment, yearly comparisons, and Corq tracking.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, including Graduate Assistants and FWS supporting SOC, Commuter Council, First-Gen, and student clubs and organizations.
Lead assessments and prepare reports to evaluate program effectiveness and impact.
Manage student vendor applications and the database.
Participate in university-wide committees as assigned.
Student Clubs and Organizations Oversight
Serve as the strategic advisor for student clubs and organizations, aligning initiatives with institutional goals to enhance retention and co-curricular engagement.
Leverage emotional intelligence and political acumen to adeptly cultivate and maintain productive relationships with faculty advisors.
Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with faculty advisors through mentorship, training, and resources that enhance their role in student development.
Lead club and organization recruitment, training, event planning, and workshops to strengthen student involvement and leadership.
Facilitate workshops and development opportunities for student clubs and organizations.
Develop strategies to increase active clubs and organizations annually through succession planning, academic partnerships, and support systems.
Manage financial processes for club and organization budgets, ensuring accountability and providing guidance for advisors and student leaders.
Oversee event oversight, including risk management, marketing, and tracking of event outcomes.
Promote the integration of club and organization initiatives into campus-wide programs and events.
Conduct research and apply best practices to expand student involvement and improve organizational effectiveness.
Student Organization Council (SOC) Leadership
Direct and advise the Student Organization Council (SOC) executive board, facilitating effective governance and supporting council meetings to address organizational needs and priorities.
Develop and deliver targeted workshops, training programs, and resources to enhance the leadership skills of club and organization executive board members and faculty advisors.
Oversee the registration and renewal processes for student clubs and organizations, ensuring accurate tracking of event requests, space reservations, and documentation using the Engage/Corq platform.
Administer and maintain the club and organization tier system, ensuring adherence to SOC manual policies and procedures, while promoting growth and progression within the system.
Monitor and enforce compliance with university guidelines, risk management protocols, and safety standards for all club and organization events and activities.
Commuter Student Engagement and Commuter Council Support
Direct and guide the Commuter Student Council, ensuring alignment with university and student needs.
Develop and execute resources, initiatives, and engagement strategies to support commuter student success.
Analyze commuter student needs and create tailored strategies to foster community development and connection.
Coordinate key university traditions and events (e.g., Community Fest) to ensure the inclusion and participation of commuter students.
Lead Department Programming Initiatives
Develop and implement programming that supports diverse student populations, including first-generation college students and international students, fostering engagement and success.
Co-chair National First Gen Student Day celebrations, collaborating with campus partners to create meaningful programming.
Partner with university departments and student organizations to develop initiatives that address the unique needs and contributions of various student groups.
Ensure representation of international students during New Student Orientation by partnering with International Student Services.
Create and deliver a first-generation student and family session during orientation based on best practices and student needs.
Serve as the department liaison to Academic Affairs, Admissions, Alumni Relations, and Advancement.
Serve on university-wide event committees, including Week of Welcome, Festival of Nations, Black History Month, and Homecoming Week.
Maintain and update departmental web resources for first-generation students.
Departmental Support
Assist in the planning and execution of key department initiatives, including New Student Orientation, Homecoming, Community Fest, and other major campus events.
Collaborate with department staff to ensure cohesive programming and engagement opportunities for students.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the department’s mission and university goals.
Qualifications/Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Leadership, or a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
3-5 years of relevant experience.
Previous experience managing a budget is required.
Responsible for the coordination of the annual student event calendar.
Responsible for the development and updates of the departmental publications
Advanced experience using MS Office, Adaptive Planning, Workday, Engage, and Corq.
Excellent editing, formatting skills, and email etiquette are required.
Advanced skills in managing/updating social media.
Must have the ability to present and deliver workshops and training as needed.
Must be able to effectively communicate with students, faculty, administration, and parents.
The incumbent must be able to interact and communicate with others effectively, respectfully, and with a positive attitude in difficult situations.
