Summary

The Simulation Operations Specialist supports the technical preparation and execution of Simulation activities delivered in the Simulation Learning Center + Annex

including course prep, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of SLC simulation and other media equipment.

**This position requires some weekends and evenings.**

Essential Functions

  • Operate the simulator during sessions, and other computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of video cameras, A/V, projectors, and other equipment.

  • Assist faculty and students with different simulator technologies and resolve technical issues. Play the standardized patient as needed during simulation scenarios.

  • Serve as simulator operator running pre-programmed scenarios with faculty instructor, assuring all equipment is set up for course programs.

  • Understand the use and operation of different simulator technology.

  • Research available technology and new resources to better assist students with simulation and practices.

  • Follow standard operating procedures, instructions, and checklists to prepare, set-up and cleanup simulation and procedural skills events.

  • Independently, set-up skills and stock simulation labs with needed supplies and equipment for simulation/educational sessions.

  • Pre and post cleaning of equipment and used areas.

  • Organize equipment in proper areas after each use.

  • Participate in systems and procedures development.

  • Participate in curriculum design meetings to facilitate technical planning and delivery for simulation activities.

  • Work with instructors and facilitators on case development, testing, and running scenarios.

  • Perform post-simulation activities, including operating the following:

  • Video Cameras/ IPads Manage recording, playback, storage, and cataloguing of simulations.

  • Debriefing Software

  • Other technology related to simulation.

  • Participate in the ordering and maintenance of supplies, materials, and equipment of SLC.

  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and conduct routine inventory updates.

  • Provide recommendations for budgeting and purchase of equipment, supplies and materials.

  • Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning, repairing, assuring that all equipment is always maintained in good working order.

  • Interface with program manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and systems problems, as well as periodic upgrades.

  • Maintain records of maintenance and repairs required and completed.

  • Participate in orders and requisitions through Workday.

  • Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system issues.

  • Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals.

  • Participate in technical training as necessary.

  • Communicate and collaborates effectively with faculty to achieve learning outcomes for SLC simulation.

  • Provide technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors, students, and staff in use of simulation equipment, as necessary.

  • Generate innovative approaches for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education.

  • Maintains SLC calendar through SharePoint & SLC Bulletin board.

  • Maintain track of upcoming events and simulations.

  • Provide administrative support to ensure smooth daily operation of the simulation-learning center. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree, or vocational or technical school degree – Field of Sciences/Nursing/Computer Science/Psychology/Instructional Technology/Communications Technology is required. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • 1-3 years of previous experience in healthcare simulation.

  • Must be available some weekends/evenings as required.

  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot Laerdal & Gaumard-powered technology & other simulators

  • Advanced experience with Laerdal and Gaumard simulators and task trainers.

  • Excellent written and oral communication.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
