The Studio Lab Supervisor provides technical support to Communication department faculty, staff, and students and serves as support staff for student and faculty productions. This position operates and maintains production equipment, editing systems, and studio systems within the purview of the Department of Communication.
Schedule details: The Media Specialist’s work schedule varies with the Academic year. The usual schedule is MH,12 pm –9 pm, F,10 am – 5 pm. Summer hours are M-F, 9 am-5 pm. This schedule may also vary during periods of heavy demand in media production areas, during special events, or when the Media Manager is away for extended periods..
Essential Functions
As directed by the Media Center Manager, provides production support and supervision to all users of the Department of Communication production resources. a. Trains, assists and supervises Media Center Work Study Staff to assist with these support services.
Plays a lead role in the operation, supervision, and maintenance of the Communication Department's Media Lab, Edit Suites, Audio Suites, Radio Station, Control Room, and Production Studios. These facilities provide students with resources to record and edit media, stage special events, and hold meetings, among other activities. a. Trains, assists and supervises Media Center Work Study Staff to assist in these support services.
Plays a lead role in operating, supervising, and maintaining the Communication Department's Equipment Services program, including:
Supervising lending services for production equipment, including cameras, lights, microphones, etc.
Training, assisting, and supervising Media Center Work Study Staff who assist in the operation of Equipment Services.
Performs periodic equipment research, testing, maintenance, and inventory. a. Maintains an up-to-date, complete, and accurate equipment inventory report that is available on demand. b. Assists with the equipment ordering process on time by researching and assessing product options to support informed purchasing decisions. c. Promptly onboard and thoroughly test all new equipment upon delivery.
With a training agenda and schedule directed by the Media Center Manager, conducts Self Professional Development Training (SPDT) on a regular, ongoing basis by utilizing free, self-paced training tutorials and other resources available on the internet, in books, in the library, etc. Maintains a Training Log to document this SPDT.
Performs other production-related duties as directed by the Media Services Manager, including A= Providing additional forms of technical support B= Conducting additional forms of product research and testing C= Organizing and cleaning production facilities and equipment to maintain professional standards and optimal operations.
Qualifications/Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in any discipline is required.
1-3 years of relevant experience
Ability to research technical options to maintain and upgrade production operations.
Basic record-keeping duties and routine communications.
Ability to communicate with other staff, students, and faculty.
