Barry University, Intercollegiate Athletics department is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will work together with the Director of Athletics Communication and Graduate Assistant for Athletics Communication in publicizing the overall athletics department, including the planning and execution of communication efforts for all Barry University sports, as well as special projects for the department.
This is an In-person position.
Essential Functions
Proactively cultivate media coverage for Barry Athletics. Produce content for individual sports and the department on various levels, including press releases, feature stories, social media and new media content. Write, edit and design publications for assigned sports and areas as needed.
Oversee the department’s social media messaging and provide social media training to coaches, staff and student-athletes. Assist with social media initiatives on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram as well as other forms of emerging media.
Assist the coordination of the department’s broadcast program, including hiring, training and scheduling personnel and developing a master schedule. Record and edit video content for publicity and social media purposes.
Assist with the maintenance of the ICA web site, including content management, daily updating and editing.
Maintain and preserve the departmental historical database of photos and videos to aid in publicizing the success of the program and its student-athletes
Responsible for game day management, including the training and supervision student crews for public address, statistics, social media and video content.
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Information, Sport Management, Journalism or related field required. Master’s degree in Sport Management, Communications or related field preferred. 3-5 years of experience may substitute for some of the above education.
1-3 years of related experience required.
Must be able to take a project from concept to completion.
Knowledge of Windows based computers, software including desktop publishing, web publishing, statistical, game management.
Should be familiar with basic sports game management equipment.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Exercises a high level of public contact on both the local, state and national level through games.
Ability to interact with media, professional organizations and others on all levels.
Cooperate with the athletic administration in the implementation of department policies.
Valid driver's license required.
