About the Role

The Director, Internal Communications is a strategic advisor and trusted partner to leaders and employees across Assurant. Reporting to the AVP, Internal Communications, this role provides senior-level counsel on communication strategies that strengthen engagement, advance business priorities, and reinforce our culture.

Working closely with leaders and cross-functional partners, the director designs and delivers high-impact, data‑informed communication initiatives that connect employees to our mission and vision, support enterprise transformation, and drive business outcomes. By championing modern, innovative communication practices and building strong relationships, this leader plays a pivotal role in shaping the employee experience and ensuring messaging resonates clearly and consistently across our global workforce.

What are key responsibilities?

Strategic Planning & Executive Counsel

  • Build trusted relationships with senior leaders and provide guidance on communication strategies that advance business goals, support change, and strengthen culture.
  • Partner with executives to develop clear, compelling messaging for major initiatives and organizational transformations.

Communications Planning & Execution

  • Develop and deliver targeted communication plans that ensure clarity, consistency, and measurable impact.
  • Collaborate across teams to align messaging and track performance, applying insights to continuously strengthen engagement.

Continuous Improvement & Quality

  • Scale communication approaches across the enterprise, ensuring content is effectively leveraged and shared globally.
  • Deliver high‑quality, brand‑aligned communications using modern tools and platforms.
  • Proactively integrate AI and emerging technologies to enhance quality, efficiency, and creativity.

Communications Transformation Leadership

  • Champion modern communication practices and technologies to evolve and advance the function.
  • Foster collaboration and mentor teams through change, using data and industry trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support adoption of AI and digital tools to expand reach and increase overall communication effectiveness.

What requirements are needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree in corporate communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of internal communications experience, ideally within a matrixed, global organization.
  • Proven strategic thinker with strong business acumen and demonstrated experience advising senior leaders.
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editorial abilities; adept at simplifying complex topics.
  • Strong project management skills and experience using data to optimize communication strategies.
  • Creative, detail‑oriented, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 and communication-specific platforms, including SharePoint, Teams, Viva Engage, Copilot, and AI-enabled tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross‑functionally, coach colleagues, and manage sensitive communications with a global mindset.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Experience partnering with Marketing and Creative Services to deliver integrated, multi‑channel internal campaigns.
  • Background in insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated, complex industry.

Pay Range:

$103,800.00 - $173,300.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
