Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for the daily support of all Sports Operations fleetwide on all Royal Caribbean ships inclusive of new ships joining the fleet. Responsibilities will include all policies, procedures, SQM, as it relates to day to day training and operations for Sports. This position is responsible for the supplies, logistics, inventory, ordering, and programming of all of the following sports activities tournaments and venues such as: mini golf courses and planned programming, Ice Skating operations and support, sports courts venues and sport court programming such as: basketball tournaments and programming, soccer tournaments and programming, floor hockey tournaments and programming, pickleball tournaments and ‘for revenue’ clinics, volleyball, dodgeball, table tennis, shuffleboard, archery, pool volleyball, pool aerobics, , badminton , billiards, and all sports activities and events around the ship. The Lead, Sports Ops will support the Manager, Sports Attractions with day to day support for operations, staff training and routine maintenance of FlowRider, Rockwalls, ZipLines, Ultimate Abyss dry slides and Crown’s Edge attractions. Additional responsibilities will include Legal and Safety communication for injury and incident reporting, depositions, and litigation. This position will work closely with IT to support all inventory uploads and management of pre-cruise sports offerings such as FlowRider lessons, FlowRider sessions , crown’s edge experience and pickleball clinics. The Lead, Sports Operations will be responsible for Sports Staff, Supervisor and Manager development and support, promotion process, coaching and discipline. The financial responsibility for this role is assisting with the Games and Sports budget for all replacement equipment and parts as well as Sports Supplies and games totaling $1.2M. The Lead Sports Operations will support and liase with the Senior Manager, Fleet Sports Operations and Strategy and the Manager, Sports Attractions on all vendor relationships and oversee pertinent contracts associated with Sports Vendors including vendor communication, ship visits & follow ups, corrective actions, replacement parts, travel and ECCRs


  • Partner with Scheduling Specialist- Sports, Casting Specialist, Manager, Sports Operations Attractions to: a. Continually evaluate all Sports Staff, Sports Supervisors, specialized sport positions and job responsibilities, berthing, working hours, rules and regulations and career path opportunities. c. Coach staff to improve performance in supervisory roles.
  • Oversee and develop SQM and safety related standard operating procedures (SOPS) to ensure onboard compliance and safety standards of all Sporting activities and events onboard fleetwide. Lead all initiatives for Homeport, fleet visible SharePoint and SQM updates as needed for said policies.
  • Lead and develop charitable effort activities working with our community and destination team and Director of Adventure Ocean, Family & Sports Operations on fleetwide rollouts of new charitable partner programs
  • Maintain safety and maintenance standards for all Sports programming by working with risk management, shipboard teams and vendors to ensure all guests and crew are safe when participating. Work with Safety teams shoreside to continually monitor safety concerns and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee and develop training programs and ongoing education opportunities for Sports Staff and Sports Supervisors creating the pipeline and Sports Management GAP for forward movement.
  • Involved with operational transition from new initiatives and new venues to transition to the operational shipboard sports teams for revitalizations, amplifications, new events and activities from a startup operation to a successful day to day operation
  • Lead all aspects of sports ordering with Purchasing to determine the best vendors for the overall product and supplies needs within the Sports Department, i.e. gifts and prizes, sports supplies, safety equipment.
  • Travel to ships to provide support and coaching as needed.
  • Develop schedules, presentations, action plans and supporting documentation for sports operations including operational plan, par justifications, seasonal par needs as needed to support the overall sports operation.
  • Analyze research, trends, guest satisfaction surveys/ comments, ratings and shipboard operational team feedback in an effort to develop programming that appeals to our guests and brings shareholder value.

  • Candidate must possess strong leadership skills, time management skills, and written and oral communication skills and be able to effectively with all senior levels of operational personnel.
  • Travel required.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Sports Programming, Event Planning, Leisure Studies, Communication, Entertainment, Travel or Leisure or five to seven years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of five to seven years related experience.
  • Experience managing and supporting large remote offices, ships or locations.
  • Experience managing and developing budgets and revenue.
  • Proven ability to drive results in this area.
  • Five to seven years shipboard experience within the Cruise Director's division required. Shipboard managerial experience as Manager preferred.
